Holly Care

An important aspect of purchasing your new Holly trees is knowing how to properly care for them. We are available through our 800 number and through e-mail. So whether it's pruning, planting, fertilizing, or pest control, contact us. We are here to help!

1) Upon receiving your holly trees, immediately unload into a shady location for best results.

2) Do not leave on concrete, blacktop, gravel, or any other heated surface.  This will dry out the root ball.

3) Place in a saw dust bed or mulched bed, cut all strings and bindings from around the tree.  Do not leave tree tied up, this will damage the tree.

4) Irrigate within twenty-four hours.  Trickle until root ball is very moist or use overhead irrigation.  It is very important to protect the root ball and keep it moist.

5)  Light pruning or shaping is acceptable if desired.  This will in no way harm the holly.

General Information:

Soil - Hollies prefer good well drained soils, but cannot tolerate wet ground.

Water well for 2 to 3 weeks.  Usually thereafter one soaking per week is adequate, making sure the entire root ball is moist.

Location - full sun to partial shade.  Heavy shade often produces a thin tree.  Avoid placing hollies in extremely windy locations.

Hardiness Zones - 5 to 9.
